Must possess skills to provide support to clerical, clinical, and medical staff in the delivery of patient care. Will assist care as supervised by the Providers. Will be cross trained in both clinical and clerical areas. High school diploma or equivalent and completion of medical assistant program required. Previous physician office experience preferred. Current medical assistant certification and BLS required. Ability to work in a fast paced environment and communicate effectively required along with good computer skills.
The medical assistant is a member of a multidisciplinary team designed to provide patient care. Under direct supervision of a physician, nurse practitioner or nurse the medical assistant may undertake the duties described below. Medical assistants are to adhere to applicable ethical, legal and regulatory standards of practice and demonstrate professional behaviors. Medical assistants may be certified by the American Association of Medical Assistants or as a Registered Medical Assistant by the American Society of Medical Technologist.
• Performing aseptic procedures, taking vital signs, preparing the patient for the physician’s/practitioner’s care, performing venipunture and nonintravenous injections, observing and reporting patients’ data, administering basic first aid, assisting with patient examinations and treatments, operating medical equipment, collecting routine laboratory specimens., performing office procedures including general administrative duties.
• Collect patient demographics, data, vital signs, height, weight and basic information about patients’ presenting and previous condition.
• Arrange examining room instruments and equipment
• Provide patient information and instructions
• Collect specimens by non-invasive techniques
• Preserve specimens for testing including urine, sputum, vomitus and stool
• Venipucture
• Demonstrate universal precautions
• Demonstrate knowledge of injection sites
• Pulse oximetry
